SHONEN UNLEASHED brings iconic anime fighters into a competitive Roblox arena where every character ships with a unique moveset, awakening, and progression path. Whether you gravitate toward Izuku’s tactical brawling, Tanjiro’s Water Breathing chains, or the endgame power of Saitama, understanding how characters are categorized — starters, cash unlocks, token unlocks, and achievement gates — saves hours of wasted grinding.

The roster is built around seven starters: Izuku Midoriya, Tanjiro Kamado, Jonathan Joestar, Ichigo Kurosaki, Monkey D. Luffy, Naruto Uzumaki, and Son Goku. New players receive a random selection of three free starters and permanently unlock one of them at no cost. Every other starter costs 1000 cash, while non-starter fighters cost 2000 cash. Premium characters Guts and Yuji Itadori require 100 tokens each, and Saitama is unlocked only after earning five ranked wins with every starter on your account.

Beyond unlock costs, each character levels independently through XP earned in matches. Reaching level 10 opens character paths — branching upgrade routes that add variations to base abilities. Paths do not replace your core kit; they extend it with new combo routes, defensive options, or awakening enhancements that can shift tier placement in ranked play.

Character Unlock Categories

Not every fighter is gated the same way. Starters form the onboarding pool — cheap, approachable, and required for Saitama’s achievement track. Cash characters expand your options without demanding ranked performance. Token characters reward consistent ranked play. Saitama sits alone as the mastery reward for players who prove competence across the entire starter cast.

Standout Characters to Know

Tanjiro is the most recommended starter for new and returning players. His kit teaches fundamental block strings, mix-up timing, and awakening cash-out without demanding 100-token investments. He also performs at A-tier or higher across Solo, Duos, and Trios tier lists — rare for a 1000-cash character.

Guts and Yuji represent the token premium tier. At 100 tokens each, they are mid-term goals for ranked players. Guts dominates with armor and hyper-aggressive neutral; Yuji offers rushdown and Black Flash burst for players who prefer high-tempo offense. Both justify their cost if you plan to climb ranked seriously.

Byakuya (2000 cash non-starter) anchors the spacing meta with sword range and counter tools. Saitama remains the long-term trophy — simple inputs masking S-tier trade wins once unlocked. Plan your roster backward: pick a free starter you enjoy, buy Tanjiro or another starter if needed, save tokens for Guts or Yuji, and chip away at Saitama’s five-win-per-starter requirement during seasonal ranked pushes.

Leveling and Character Paths

Every character earns XP independently from matches. Ranked mode provides a 1.4× XP multiplier, making it the fastest route to level 10 path unlocks. Casual, private servers, and AFK lobby farming contribute cash but are slower for character mastery.

At level 10, character paths open. Each path offers distinct variations — sometimes a new ultimate route, sometimes augmented movement or combo extensions. Season rewards also accelerate roster growth: 500 cash plus 50 tokens for each rank tier above bronze at season end. A player who finishes silver or gold can fund multiple 2000-cash unlocks and still afford token characters within a single season cycle.
